The GC
Here's a short recap of my spring break with Brian Starr and Drew Gemmer, possibly the best one that I've had yet. (and some photos too)
Friday Night - Watch TV
Saturday, 9:00 - Drive down to Linfield to pick up Drew and watch his tennis match.
Sunday, 2:00 - Arive at Grand Canyon, and learn at there is no "the" in front of Grand Canyon.
Sunday, 4:00 - We waste $10.66 a piece watching the Grand Canyon IMAX which lasts 33 minutes.
Sunday, 5:00 - We discover that there are some really creepy girls in the campsite next to us. This is how our only conversation went. [girl] - You guys are 21 right? [us] - yeah [girl] - good.
Sunday Night - 10 degree temperatures and snow keeps us awake and shivering all night long. We get a combined total of 2 hours of sleep.
Monday - We wake up and hike into Grand Canyon, its much warmer down at the river. Suprisingly there are cabins at the bottom, and the resort town is even outfitted with electricity and washing machines. We learn that for $33 you can buy a steak for dinner. Instead we decide to attend the free nature talk. Did you know that the humback-chub is a threatened by all the trout that we've introduced to the river?
Tuesday - We hike to some falls that are 6 miles away. On the way we pass the wild turkeys that were blown off the north rim a couple days prior to our arival. (they're now 5000 veritcal ft away from their homes)
Tuesday Night - We go to another nature talk and then play cards with high school girls from Texas, in the dining hall. The "18 yearl old" girls get offended when Brian tells them that they're too young for him.
Wednesday - The hike back up to the south rim is probably the hardest physical thing that I've done in the past 2 years. We were probably some of the healthiest people hiking back up which makes me wonder how hard it must be for the older people to get to the top.
Wednesday night - We drive to Las Vegas and camp at Red Rocks.
Thursday 7:00 am - The most active campground host in the world wakes us up and makes us pay for our campsite. This lady literally never stops working between 7 in the morning and 10 at night.
Thursday all day long - We go rock climbing at Red Rocks. Brian does his first climb with my strong encouragement of refusing to let him down till he reaches the top.
Friday - We head into Las Vegas and spend some quality time at the Belagio. Brian makes out good in the poker room while Drew loses $50 at the slots in less than 20 minutes.
Friday-Saturday - We make the 20 hour drive back to Tacoma just in time for Drew's second tennis match of Spring Break.
Saturday - We watch 5 hours of Sopranos, I think I'm addicted.

This is us part way into the canyon on day 1 of hiking.
Us at Ribbon Falls
One of the two wild-turkeys that fell of the north-rim. Their names were Bill and Mark (not Bill and Ted as they should have been named).
It really was cold close to the top. You wouldn't think it but the rims of the canyon are at about 8000 feet.
The mules that laped us on the way up. I have no pitty for the people who rode mules to the top and complained that they couldn't walk cause were sore from being in a saddle all day.
